6 Must Have Experiences in New York City

This morning I was reading my RSS feed and I noticed so many different bloggers and news reports are writing about vacations and where to go this summer. One of my all time favorite summer trips is a New York City Vacation.

A little NYC trivia..
New York City is situated in a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States; the city consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. New York City's five boroughs are home to some of the world's most recognizable landmarks and attractions. Despite the tough economic climate, NYC continues to consistently attract travelers. Home to legendary icons ranging from Times Square and Central Park to the Empire State Building and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the island of Manhattan crowds some of the most renowned NYC destinations into one small borough. The rest of the city houses a number of other famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Immigration Museums.

6 Great Experiences to Have When Visiting NYC…

  1. Times Square aka Theatre Square or Neon Square or Peoples square…Where midnight looks like 3 pm, where ABC’s Good Morning America reports every morning, where tourists gather year round to take photographs until they can’t smile any longer. Times Square is in the heart of Theatre District and is somewhat of tourist trap that you must experience just to say you’ve been there - done that.
  2. Broadway Show- when in Rome, do as the Romans do, well when in New York, you must see at least one Broadway show. Make sure it’s a show that peaks your interest, not all Broadway shows suite everyone. (My personal favorite show on Broadway is Phantom of the Opera)
  3. Central Park spans nearly 850 acres across the heart of Manhattan. It is big, bold, beautiful and one of the world’s greatest urban parks. Joggers, nature lovers, bikers, locals and tourist alike all congregate like nowhere else in the city.
  4. NYC Skyline from Top of the Rock provides one of the most spectacular views New York has to offer. Experience a 360degree view from 850 feet above street level in the six-level observatory atop the Art Deco skyscraper, 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Top of the Rock stays open late, so consider a night time view of the lit city skyline.
  5. NYC Museums provide a world-class museum experience. The Metropolitan Museum of Art also referred to as “the Met” is one of the largest art museums in the world includes more than two million pieces of art. Another popular museum is The Ellis Island Immigration Museum. This museum offers visitors a unique glance into the immigration experience.
  6. The Statue of Liberty, historically known as gleaming beacon of light for generations of immigrants seeking a better life in America, is perhaps New York City's most recognizable historic landmark. Despite the fact you can see Lady Liberty from land, the short ferry ride to Liberty Island will bring you up close and personal.
